Here are the final proportions for the drawing. Connect these dots and extend a line. This is a foreshortened distance equal to the width of the box.

Take these repetition lines gray you drew, and reflect them in perspective. In many cases, these eyespots incorporate a white highlight Fig. Reflect this line, in perspective, and make a dot at the point where you determine it hits the mirror.

Observation and practice will help you paint what you see and not what you know. Drag paint from dark reflected objects quickly into the light areas, clean the brush, then drag the paint from the light areas back into the dark. The rules that govern the perception of reflection are a small subset of the physical rules of reflection.

The vertical mast meets the water reflection surface far behind the boat reflection point. Watch for the bright highlights from ripples in dark areas and small dark streaks appear in light areas. In clear water, the rocks and objects under the water are seen.

Shallow water generally ripples and moves its course over rocks and debris.

Shallow ocean water is lighter, often turquoise in color. The Surface of the Water: Determine the various angle proportions. Lakes, rivers and streams tend to be greener.

Now, look at the scene in perspective from the eye point. First, we need to determine how far the box is from the mirror. Use geometric lines diagonally across the center to determine where the boat doubles in perspective, and therefore where the reflection is.Painting a body of water that looks realistic can be a great addition to a landscape but it also presents many challenges.

There are many different ways water can be part of a landscape from a very still lake with mirror-like reflections to a very agitated waterfall, and there are many different. Art Demonstrations, Landscapes Painting Water Water is one of the most sought-out subjects in paintings.
